How To Wear Feather Hair Extensions Properly – Dos and Don’ts

If you have been captivated lately by the quality of colorful feather hair extensions hair accessories, you are not alone! But as with any trend, there are rules to follow. How to wear feather hair extensions is not too complicated, but there are are some dos and don’ts you’ll want to join.

We reached out to The Feather Junkie founder Ashley Featherston who explained everything we need to know to maximize this bold and eye-catching look!

DO: Place them anywhere in your hair you choose. Our step-by-step installation video has fun placement tips.

DO: Have fun with your assortment of colors. Our individual hair feathers allow you to choose your favorite color, length and even width of your feather.

DO: Have fun mixing different widths and lengths of feathers. Personally, I like to mix longer and shorter, but I like the wider feathers behind my ear and having them longer than my natural hair.

DO: Maintenance of your hair feathers every 4 to 6 weeks. This is done by reusing your current feather extensions and moving the micro-link to the scalp. It is a very simple process and can be done easily at home using our Hair Feather Tool Kit.

DO: Gently treat your feather extensions. They can break like real hair. Treat with care and avoid petting. It can loosen their bond.

DO: Store your feathers flat if possible. If not, it’s good! Over time, your hair feathers will form to the position they are left or stored in. Just smooth them out with a flat iron before use.

DO: Be free, be light and let your feather fly!

DO NOT: Tuck too many feathers into one micro link. It can lead to falls due to a loose tie. 6 to 7 feathers per micro-link are recommended.

DO NOT: Don’t be afraid to wash, brush, blow dry, straighten, curl or jump into the pool with your feathers. Let your feathers blend into your life.

DO NOT: Go long periods without maintenance. Believe me, going five months without raising your feathers up to your scalp will cause fear between the feathers to form and your new growth. This will lead to cutting this piece of hair.

DO NOT: Be afraid to use heat, but use with caution. Anything above 450 degrees can break feathers and your hair.

Speaking of extensions (of all kinds!), HERE’S how to sleep while you have them.
