Grey’s Anatomy star Chandra Wilson puts an end to rumors that the long-running show created by Shonda Rhimes will end after the upcoming season 19.
Chandra Wilson strongly refutes the rumor that Grey’s Anatomy season 19 will end the series. The longest-running scripted prime-time show in ABC history, Grey’s Anatomy has been on air since Bridgerton and Scandal Chief honcho Shonda Rhimes brought the life of Ellen Pompeo’s Dr. Meredith Gray to the small screen in 2005. Since then, many famous faces have passed through the halls of Seattle Grace Hospital, including Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsy and Jesse. Williams.
Of the original cast, however, only three remained. They’re Pompeo, whose performance as the eponymous Gray has gone down in the annals of television history, James Pickens Jr., the pragmatic and lovable Richard Webber, and Wilson, who plays the chief of surgery. fan favorite Miranda Bailey. It could be the beginning of the end for these three, however, as with the announcement of the Grey’s Anatomy With the renewal of Season 19 in January of this year came the inevitable rumor mill rumor that suggested this might be the show’s last hurray.
It was exactly this kind of conversation that Wilson was quick to shut down. hello america (Going through CinemaBlend)when host Michael Strahan said that “[Season 19] is supposed to be the last.Coming straight back to him with an intensity that fans are used to from his character, Wilson asks, “Is that what the rumors say?with a firm sense of disbelief. She then addresses the other hosts of the show and the audience, advising them to simply ignore Strahan. Check out the actor’s quote below:
Is that what the rumors say? See, ignore Strahan. He doesn’t really know what he’s talking about. I’m just saying you really don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ll just say that. I say it like that. Right here, right here. Strahan doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
While Wilson and Strahan laugh it all off, it’s very clear that she doesn’t think Grey’s Anatomy season 19 will be his last. In fact, later in the same clip, Wilson explains that she pretty much takes her character’s storylines as they go, similar to how Pompeo renewed her contract for just one year at a time. At the end of season 17, Pompeo, who is also serving as an executive producer, opted to extend her contract with ABC only until the end of the next episode, while Wilson and Pickens opted for multi-year extensions. This means that the three original stars are contractually tied to the show until the end of season 19, but, as Wilson quickly explains, they aren’t expected to stop there.
So it looks like the Grey’s Anatomy The main cast are happy to continue returning to their long white coats and dramatic confrontations as long as the ratings hold steady. Luckily for ABC, Krista Vernoff, who returned as showrunner in 2017, oversaw a revival in the show’s performance, taking it from number 11 to number 5 in the key 18-49 demographic. This, combined with the effective manner in which Wilson ended any scare campaign, should comfort fans of the show, who now have reason to hope that it will continue long after season 19.
