Chef Alwyn Gudinho draws inspiration from his mother and grandmother’s recipes for Cardamom’s extensive Indian menu, which ranges from Goan staples like prawn balchao to regional Indian classics, from peeli dal to veg jalfrezi . “This charming little gem of an Indian restaurant, located on a quiet Sunnyside street with a flashing neon sign and bright orange awning, is set to become a neighborhood staple,” notes the Michelin Guide, which directs diners to the section Indo-Portuguese (vindaloo lamb, goan fish curry) and the tandoori lamb chops, after checking with the server for spice levels. Dante Datta and Chef Suresh Sundas met at award-winning James Beard Chef Vikram Sunderam’s Rasika in Washington DC. Their inventive Indian restaurant and cocktail bar serves Black Dal burrata, wild mushrooms and Za’atar olive naan as well as a Chai-Teani cocktail with Old Port rum, masala chai, cardamaro and cream of cocoa. The guide recommends the Blue Cheese Reshmi Kebab served with sour cherry reduction and cashew nuts, the Bison Momo with Szechuan pepper and the Nariyal Lamb Shank prepared with saffron, Kashmiri chili and coconut and served with basmati rice.
